Dear CRD Family,

As we’re sure you all know, the coronavirus has rapidly swept across the globe, affecting everyone in different ways. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has cut our semester and programming short. Many student organizations have cancelled their events and the Charles R. Drew Pre-Health Society is no exception. All CRD GBMs, Community Service, Fundraising and Programming events have been cancelled for the remainder of the semester.

Regarding the future of CRD, we hope to continue the success of the organization next semester, which requires elections. We are aware that it was not possible to reach the 3-2-1 point rule that is usually required for semester membership, so special accommodations have been made. To be inducted this semester, we require that you have at least two total points from any category. To be eligible to run for a 2020-2021 executive board position, we require you be a Fall 2019 inductee and/or a Spring 2020 inductee. All Spring 2020 inductees will be notified in the coming weeks of their membership eligibility. Please stay tuned for any further updates and direct any questions to Marie-Line via email or GroupMe.

As future health professionals, we hope that you are doing your part to stay safe and practice social distancing for the benefit of public health. We hope that you are all safe and healthy and we wish you all the best during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Lauren Smith and Tosan Eweka

Welcome to CRD Freshmen!

We've seen health professionals utilizing social media more and more! Each week, we'll share a health professional you should all be following, whether they share educational materials, inspire pre-health students, or just have some awesome discount codes!

Our spotlight pre-health professional is Dr. Nathan Kanyinda who is an ophthalmology resident at Howard University.

He acts as an advisor to pre-meds and medical school students through his residency to become an eye surgeon. He uses Instagram and YouTube to show what life is like during residency.

OUR MISSION

The CHARLES R. DREW Pre-Health Society at the University of Maryland, College Park exists to provide students with information that will allow them to confidently and competitively approach the medical and allied-health fields.

We stress DIVERSITY and cater towards the minority populations. We believe that it is important to support, guide, and provide resources for underrepresented ethnic groups whose passions lie in the science and health fields. We are the UMD M.A.P.S. Chapter of the SNMA.

Congrats Seniors!
